The accounts of the main opposition party CHP (Republican People’s Party) have been reviewed by the Constitutional Court and there observed some irregularities in the accounts in last four years.
The court discovered that CHP's irregular expenses were 35,300 YTL in 1998; 267,800 YTL in 2004; 161,600 YTL in 2005; and 465,600 YTL in 2006.
Top Court has made an explanation on the case by stating that the party has to return the amount to the main treasury of the country. Responsible of the irregularities might be subjected to a trial as well.
Claims of seeking the accounts of the party were raised together with the accusations of party’s possible financial relations with Kanalturk formerly known as a nationalist right wing channel, owned by Tuncay Ozkan.
Top Court of Turkey has also stated that the all the financial relations between the party and the TV channel are in regular mode and all the income and outcome are documented correctly. In this sense, the decision of the Top Court means that CHP has cleared its name from the claims of funding a TV channel for making the constant propaganda of the party and hosting their members on TV programs in return of financial help.
